Campello Business Association Meeting
April 8, 2008 7:00pm
Reed’s Ultimate Breakfast, 2021 Main St Brockton MA

Ron called the meeting to order.

Noel Barbosa and Ray St Germain could not attend today’s meeting so there was no secretary’s or treasurer’s reports.

New Business

Councilor Eaniri came and spoke briefly to the association members present.

The Campello Scholarship Committee was reappointed. Ron has a number of applications.

A request was made by the Brockton Police Leadership Council for $150.00 to help fund the cost of the tent they use at the Brockton Fair for their Public Safety Booth.

Motion was made and carried to donate $150.00 to them.

At the request of Ray St. Germain, a request for $100.00 to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Motion was made and carried to donate $100.00 to them.

Our guest speaker was Ken Platter of AFLAC Insurance.

Mr. Platter discussed the many insurance programs he offers to businesses which can then be offered to their employees who can pay for the programs with pre-tax dollars.

He discussed the benefits of offering these programs to employees and the added benefit of employee retention when provided with such benefits.

Mr. Platter gave an AFLAC duck to Officer Tom Robinson, Officer Robinson is our community policing officer during the 4pm -12am shift.

Old Business

We need to get the remainder of the tree brackets installed. Al Gazerro offered to help and suggested the Association get hold of an electric jack hammer to help facilitate installation.

Also, a number of brackets have been damaged and need to be replaced.

Minutes from our last meeting March 11, 2008 held at the Emanuel house residence.

Elections were held and the following people were nominated and elected:

Directors Martin Conboy, Gary Leonard, Valerie Loumis, Robert Parella, Vincent Zibelli

This month our guest speakers were Mayor James Harrington and Police Chief William Conlon. It was a very informative meeting for members about the crime issues in the Campello area.

The Chief spoke about crime in the city and the State police that are currently assigned to the city. He stated the State Police are assigned to the city as their regular assignment and not on overtime. The Chief stated the Brockton Police Dept has a good relationship with the State Police and he is happy to have them here.

Mayor Harrington discussed the current budget woes and that he is committed to not laying off any police officers and perhaps even hiring a few later in the year.

The Mayor also spoke of a program being run out of City Hall to get kids summer jobs. The Mayor asked if any business could, to hire a teen for the summer. He also said that the program could offer some businesses that hire a teen, another teen at no cost.

We had a great turn out along with Councilor Dennis Eaniri. Also present were our community police officers crime watch was discussed in the neighborhood. The meeting was adjourned at 1 pm

February 2008 Meeting Minutes

Campello Business Association MeetingFebruary 12, 2007  7:00pm

Held at the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center

Ron called the meeting to order. 

Noel could not attend tonight’s meeting so there was no secretary’s report Ray St Germain gave the treasures report.

Report was accepted. 

Councilor Eaniri was present. 

The owners of Triple M Movers on East Market St asked the Councilor about getting East  Market St paved. The Councilor stated the street was outside his ward but he would forward their concerns to Councilor Studenski. He then discussed the procedures of getting a road repaired and the funding.  Ron Bethoney then closed the meeting and turned it over to Lou Brambilla of the Health Center. Lou explained how they had out grown their old location and needed the expanded space. 

He explained how the old center was only 10,000 sq. ft. and they now have 58,000 sq. ft. Sue Joss, the Health Center director then explained that 42% of the people that come to the facility don't speak English and that the majority of  their employees speak more than one language.

 

Sue also discussed how they have over 15,000 patients and have more then 67,000 office visits per year.Sue Joss and Lou Brambilla then led a tour of the facility. We toured all floors of the facilty. Administration, pediatrics, OB/Gyn, Adult care and urgent care. Sue explained how the Urgent Care facility is very busy and expanding daily. She also discussed patient needs for dental care.In the administration area she discussed how records are now kept electronically.

 

Sue discussed that one of their biggest problems is finding Doctors. As summer arrives many doctors leave and leave a hole in their ability to provide care with out extended periods of time between appointment. 

Sue and Lou can certainly be proud of the new facility and the services they provide.

 

   

January 2008 Meeting Minutes

Minutes from our last meeting January 8 2008 held at the Italian kitchen Restaurant. This month we had no guest speakers it was a social meeting for members to meet with each other.We had a great turn out along with Councilors Linda Balzotti, Dennis Eaniri, Paul Studenski, & Todd PettiAlso present were our community police officers and alarm systems were discussed about an issue in the neighborhood.We also talked about the rising amount of abandoned houses and buildings in the city being stripped of copper and fixtures. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm

Greetings Campello Business Members and Associates.

We hope everybody enjoyed bringing in the year 2008.

We want to wish all of the Campello Business members and associates a prosperous and healthy New Year.

This meeting will be a social meeting to meet with other Campello business members and associates.

Please bring a Campello business person that is not a member with you as a guest.

Also please bring your thoughts and ideas on moving the Campello Business Association forward for the year 2008.
Example: guest speakers, beautification, graffiti removal, lots cleaned, etc.

NOTE: Time change. Our next meeting will be held on January 8, 2008 at
7:00 p.m. in the Italian Kitchen Restaurant. If you wish to eat, please arrive at 6:00 and order off the menu on your own.

Don’t forget our elections will be held in March 2008 and if you are seeking a position as an officer please let us know so we can put you on the ballet.

We would like to thank all of our members for their support in the past and hope that it will continue, as our scholarship is very important to the two students in the Campello area every year.

October 2007 Meeting Minutes

Our last meeting was held at the Emmanuel House Residence 25 East Nilsson Street Campello.

Our guest speakers were Valerie Lomus Admissions Director from the Emmanuel House Residence gave us a great presentation about the Emmanuel House Residence.

We also had Mayor Jim Harrington and Chief William Conlon giving us an update on the crime statistics and how the new systems will work, an outstanding presentation by both men.

 

September 2007 Meeting Minutes

June Meeting Minutes

Our meeting was held at the Sodade Restaurant on June 12, 2007

 The meeting opened at 12:05 pm The Secretary & Treasurer's were read and both accepted. Our guest speaker Mary Waldron form the Brockton 21st Century Corporation spoke about what is being done to bring new business and help existing companies to grow and continue to thrive in the Brockton area.

 We also had a speaker Carla Fogaren form the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center. Carla spoke on community outreach. Also there was Dennis M. Sexton with PRW Corporate Benefits. Dennis spoke on the Mass Health Care Reform and your business Commonwealth Care,  Commonwealth  Choice becomes effective July 1, 2007 Being no other business the meeting closed at 1:00 p.m. 

We want to wish everyone a good safe Summer.

Our next meeting will be on September 11, 2007 location to be announced.

April Meeting Minutes

Our April business meeting was held at the Cape Cod Cafe on April 10, 2007. 

Congratulations to Officer Al Gazerro "Our Hero". Officer Nancy Leedberg spoke about the "Award's and Comedy Night"  to held on May 11, 2007 at the Shaw's Center 1 Lexington Avenue Brockton, Mass. Tickets are available on line at www.shawscenter.com. For further information you can go to www.brocktonpolice.com. Heroes Night. We hope to see you there. 

Our guest speaker was Captain Emanuel Gomes from the Brockton Police Dept. The Captain addressed us on the parking issue in the Campello area. All of the members present, a motion was entered and approved, agreeing with Captain Gomes to allow one hour parking in front of the businesses on Main Street during normal business hours. Councilor Dennis Eaniri mentioned parking meters in the South Street parking lot that will be one way to have it maintained by the city.  

We also had guest speaker Tony Baldwin and Jack Buckley representing Brockton Power that explained the tax benefits for the city and gave us a great presentation being proposed for a power plant on Oak Hill Way. We were also asked by Jay Gormley form Catholic Charities that they will be roasting Attorney John McCluskey as a fund raiser for the Catholic Charities which will be held on May 17,2007 at 6:00 p.m. also at the Shaw's Center. Another great thing not to miss. 

Elections were held and completed. Same Officer's were elected to term. 

Our past President Gary Leonard was presented with an award on the behalf of the Campello Business Association for his years of service to the community and association. 

There will be no meeting for May. Our next meeting will be on June 12, 2007 location  to be announced.


March Meeting Minutes

The minutes from the last meeting at the Gilmore Academy School  March 13, 2007Our meeting with the principal Terry Starr - Klein was a great turn out. 

 Present were our Councilors Paul Studenski, Dennis Eaniri & Robert Sullivan supporting us to better the Campello business area.  

We had a very interesting power point presentation by the principal and were given a tour of the school and there classrooms, by the students.
 

 


 

 

February Meeting Minutes

We had a great turn out at our last meeting.

The meeting was held "Campello Heights" Condominiums, 232 Clinton Street and David Elman was our guest speaker.  He gave us a tour of the Condo in which we held our meeting and gave us a great presentation on this and some of his other projects in Brockton and expressed his commitment to the City. David Elman has done an outstanding job in revitalizing the Campello area.  Hats off to business members like him! Mayor James Harrington, Counselors Linda Balzotti, Dennis Eaniri, & Todd Petti also attended this meeting. 
They are very concerned about city issues including Campello and give us there support to make it a better place for everyone to live, work and enjoy life at.

 

January Meeting Minutes

Our last meeting was held at the Cape Cod Cafe

and our guest speaker Yiannis Davos spoke about the new buildings and appreciated the support from the city and the Campello Business Association.

He has addressed all and any issues raised by the city and neighbors.

Attorney McCluskey requested a letter signed by all members of the Campello Business Association for the support to Yiannis Davos. A motion was entered and approved by the board to type a letter of support.

Our next meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February, 13, 2007 at 232 Clinton Street.  

Our guest speaker will be David Elman. He has invited us to give us a tour of his latest project.

Last Month Minutes
  • The Campello Business Association meet at the Brockton Police station for a 911 tour.
  • Our meeting started at 6:05 pm and we were given a tour of the garage where prisonersare brought in and booked.
  • We then had a tour of the female cells.and ended our tour with a trip to the 911 facility and dispatch.
  • Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.

December Meeting Agenda

We are holding this months meeting at the Brockton police station.
Officer Al Gazerro will be giving us an explanation of and tour of the 911 center.

Parking is tight so try to be early. Upon arrival the lobby officer will direct you upstairs to the academy.

Last Month's Minutes: 

Our last meeting was held at the newly renovated Sodade Restaurant. Thanks to Jose and his wife Maria for being gracious hosts and thanks for the delicious food. Our guest speaker was Jonny Watkins who spoke about the Work Express Program and the individuals it has helped in the past. Our thanks to them for the outstanding job they are doing in the City. We donated a box of red winter hats and gloves to the W/E program. The Holiday Parade is November 25th, 2006 at 1:00pm The Brockton Police Department is running the Project Guardian Angel and is looking for donations of new toys, canned goods and clean gently used coats and blankets.

Campello Business Association donates $500 for Clean up of the South Street parking area.
The D.A.’s office agreed to match any money pledged by the association towards this effort. The Association pledged $500.00, as well, generous members’ present pledged an additional $295.00 to bring the total with the D.A.’s office match to $1590.00.
